Nastel Technologies, a premier global provider of application performance monitoring solutions for mission-critical applications from the datacenter to the cloud, today announced support for IBM DataPower SOA appliances. An industry first, Nastel AutoPilot® M6 for WebSphere DataPower now offers customers a single point of control over their infrastructure to accommodate growth, increased regulation and the challenge of application mobility and elasticity.
AutoPilot monitors IBM DataPower appliances via Web Services and SNMP. In this scenario, it has detected a misconfiguration error. AutoPilot can create robust alerts which monitor multiple factors within DataPower before triggering alerts and warnings. It offers a single monitoring interface across all of the customers' appliances (Graphic: Business Wire)
“We are supporting IBM’s SOA appliance DataPower at some of our large enterprise customers who are deploying in private clouds -- and it is providing immediate value,” said Charley Rich, VP of Product Management, Nastel. “Now, AutoPilot gives enterprise customers access to real-time analysis of multiple middleware solutions, Message Broker, Enterprise Service Buss and now DataPower, providing a single point of control and monitoring over their infrastructure performed under one policy.”
Economic pressure on enterprise organizations to consolidate has resulted in significant merger and acquisition activity, where companies are forced to use the IT assets and applications inherited through these consolidations. However, those inherited applications do not speak the same language as those already in use at the acquiring organization. IBM DataPower provides the translation mechanism that allows all applications to speak the same language, and connects them so they work in unison.
In today’s Service Oriented Architecture world, appliances such as IBM DataPower are used for intelligent routing of content and data transformation necessary for service interoperability. To successfully integrate applications without rebuilding them, tools such as enterprise service buss and SOA appliances act as “universal translators” to transform the content of one to the other and route between them. SOA appliances also route orders from one application service to another and maintain their intelligibility. However, these important business tasks are usually not monitored in the context of the business process the firm is using, making their effectiveness unknown.
Nastel AutoPilot provides a DataPower Expert with support for all of the metrics DataPower provides, including appliance statistics, users, connections, caching, memory, network and chassis. In addition, AutoPilot maintains a collection history for trending analysis. This instrumentation data is analyzed by the AutoPilot Complex Event Processing (CEP) engine which views it as part of a larger situation in conjunction with other performance data coming from sources such as Java, .NET, WMQ, ESB, Message Broker, transactions and CICS. AutoPilot CEP analyzes the performance of DataPower routing and transformation in relation to user specified business policy, and automatically delivers early warning indicators about potential business-impacting problems.
“Measuring these activities is important for enterprises as it elevates system monitoring to the level of analyzing business process effectiveness,” Rich continued. “AutoPilot correlates these situational metrics with its capability to discover and monitor business processes referred to as milestones. Now, end-users can see how IBM DataPower’s performance impacts movement through the execution of a business process and supplies them with information important for improving business throughput. Armed with this knowledge, the business can accelerate its performance and ability to compete.”
