LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM and CALGARY, ALBERTA and BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS and NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- (Marketwire) -- 11/08/12 -- Chaordix® Inc., the global standard in crowdsourced market intelligence, is powering a new initiative to engage human rights activists on college and university campuses in every nation in the global ChallengeSlavery.org contest. The goal of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) initiative is to find innovative technological solutions to put an end to the human trafficking of the estimated 20.9 million people who are enslaved in sex or labour exploitation.
Chaordix is working with DAI to facilitate the Counter Trafficking in Persons Campus Challenge (C-TIP). C-TIP is sponsored by MTV Exit, Free the Slaves, Not for Sale, and Half the Sky Movement who have come together with USAID to support the launch of this unique global effort. The Chaordix Crowd Intelligence(TM) platform provides ChallengeSlavery.org participants with access to leading-edge discussion, voting, collaboration, co-creation, and expert panel evaluation technologies and processes.
"This promises to be truly world-changing," said Chaordix Founder & CEO, Shelley Kuipers. "The ChallengeSlavery.org initiative brings President Barack Obama's speech at the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative to life. C-TIP is providing the platform for capturing the smart technology ideas and student ingenuity he called for, in order to help address this tragedy. It's an honour to be involved."
In President Obama's September 2012 speech, he declared: "We're turning the tables on the (human) traffickers. Just as they are now using technology and the Internet to exploit their victims, we're going to harness technology to stop them. We're encouraging tech companies and advocates and law enforcement - and we're also challenging college students - to develop tools that our young people can use to stay safe online and on their smart phones."
The multi-phase online crowdsourcing community at ChallengeSlavery.org is currently using crowdsourcing approaches to identify, discuss and prioritize issues related to human trafficking and current victims. On November 28, 2012, a contest phase will invite innovative technological solutions to the issues raised. A crowd rating and expert panel voting process will help select the top entries, with the winners being announced at the end of February 2013. Winners will receive a prize and a trip to Washington to participate in a conference showcasing their innovative ideas with a range of USAID C-TIP donors and technology professionals.
