NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 11/29/12 -- The following is an investment opinion highlighting IBM (NYSE: IBM), Intel (NASDAQ: INTC), Dow Chemical (NYSE: DOW), and Graphite Corp (OTCQB: GRPH). Industrial Minerals has published The Natural Graphite Report 2012 recently and this in-depth report discusses data, analysis and forecasts for the next five years in the graphite industry. http://www.metalbulletinstore.com/images/covers/NaturalGraphiteReport/Graphite2012.pdf
The report highlights how "Natural graphite is entering a new era of demand." Industry analysts point to the emergence of the lithium-ion battery era that has potential to turn the graphite industry on its head. Since 2010, the price of high quality flake grades of natural graphite have increased by 140% as a result of Chinese policy and struggling production elsewhere in the world. The price pattern is recurring: that of a stabilization followed by an increase. One thing seems certain -- graphite is not losing its value.
In May, graphene, the material found in graphite, was profiled in the Economist. The magazine said that graphene has gained a reputation as a wonder material. It is the best conductor of heat at room temperature discovered to-date, and is 40 times stronger than steel. Graphene is also a semiconductor for electricity and is 1,000 times more conductive than silicon. This means it could be used to make devices far more sensitive than are possible now, leading some to predict that it will one day become the material of choice for computer chips. IBM (NYSE: IBM) has already created the first graphene integrated circuit, and Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) and Dow Chemicals (NYSE: DOW) are said to be heavily involved in R&D using graphene.
One American company focused on production of graphite in the United States is Graphite Corp., (OTCQB: GRPH). Just yesterday, Graphite Corp. announced initial data findings from its property in Clay County Alabama. The data was produced from a compilation study of official records and related data by the US Bureau of Mines and highlights how Graphite Corp.'s Alabama property has over 7 Million Tons of minable graphite existent on its land. Although the data is not conclusive, it is extremely promising and could be supported by company data which is estimated to be completed in the near future.
