Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/w8lpbl/global_network) has announced the addition of the "Global Network Processor and Co-processor Market 2011-2015" report to their offering.
TechNavio's analysts forecast the Global Network Processor and Co-processor market to grow at a CAGR of 6.26 percent over the period 2011-2015. One of the key factors contributing to this market growth is the increasing popularity of network processors in access and metro applications. The Global Network Processor and Co-processor market has also been witnessing the development of multicore processors. However, the increasing technological complexity of network standards could pose a challenge to the growth of this market.
The key vendors dominating this market space are Broadcom Corp., EZchip Semiconductor Ltd., Intel Corp., LSI Corp., and Renesas Electronics Corp.
The other vendors mentioned in the report are Applied Micro Circuits Corp., Cavium Inc., Freescale Semiconductor Inc., PMC-Sierra Inc., Marvell Technology Group Ltd., IBM Corp., and Fujitsu Ltd.
Commenting on the report, an analyst from TechNavio's Networking team said: ''The Semiconductor industry has evolved over the years to include various types of end-user equipment and applications. Some of the highly complex and high-performance computing systems use multicore architectures and processors. Multicore processors consume less power and provide a higher output per watt usage than conventional processors. However, multicore processors and architectures cater only to a specific set of markets. Therefore, vendors are in the process of developing infinitely scalable multicore architecture processors that are both scalable and flexible enough to address distinct markets and various applications. The development of such processors depends on the type of processing technology required and the evolution of different forms of processing algorithms and applications.''
According to the report, one of the main drivers is the increasing popularity of network processors in access and metro applications. In recent years, chip vendors have begun to focus on lower speeds and have also been successful in shifting network processing ASICs into access and metro applications. Vendors have successfully developed cost-effective product lines in digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs), base stations, and other applications.
