Kapsch TrafficCom ranks first in ABI Research’ Intelligent Transportation Systems vendor Competitive Assessment, performing strongly across hardware, software, and solutions and excelling in toll collect and road use charging, traffic data, monitoring, and management, road and vehicle safety systems, and hardware. In second place was Siemens, excelling in regional coverage, traffic management, software and middleware, and big data. Hitachi took third place, scoring high on quality and reliability, multi-modal mobility, and smart cities integration, as well as combining hardware, services, and IT expertise.
“As the ITS market is still in an early stage, many vendors have been preparing for this market taking off by designing solutions and participating in Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) trials while also anticipating possible mandates. As a consequence, in this ranking, readiness has been used as an important guideline in scoring vendors against the different criteria,” says VP and practice director Dominique Bonte.
The overall Intelligent Transportation Systems vendor ecosystem can be divided into three categories:
- Solution Providers: Kapsch, SWARCO, Q-Free, Siemens, PTV Group, Hitachi, TomTom
- Hardware Providers: Kapsch, Denso, Bosch, Hitachi, Continental
- IT Vendors: IBM, Siemens, Cisco, Logica, Xerox
Few companies offer the full range of ITS hardware, software, and solutions, with Hitachi coming closest, followed by Siemens and Kapsch, explaining their top rankings. IT players are prominently present leveraging their software and big data expertise which will become increasingly important components of ITS solutions in the future. Automotive Tier1 suppliers Denso, Bosch, and Continental are mainly focused on V2V hardware components.
This Competitive Assessment provides a rating of 15 leading Intelligent Transportation Systems vendors which were analyzed against 6 “innovation” and 7 “implementation” criteria in addition to a market share analysis. These findings are part of ABI Research’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (http://www.abiresearch.com/research/service/intelligent-transportation-systems/) and Automotive Technologies (http://www.abiresearch.com/research/service/automotive-technologies/) Research Services.
