Gazzang, the Linux data security company, today announced the latest version of its data encryption solution. Available worldwide, Gazzang zNcrypt™ now supports block-level encryption and multi-tenant storage architectures.
In big data environments, the sheer volume of data being collected and stored is typically too large for organizations to sift through and determine the sensitive nature of a particular file. In these situations, block-level encryption offered by zNcrypt provides significant performance improvement over file-level encryption. zNcrypt also enables organizations to encrypt multiple drives on a single server, giving users the ability to add more storage on an incremental basis without having to migrate data to a larger, more expensive drive.
Gazzang zNcrypt is a “virtual filesystem,” sitting within the operating system and below the application layer to encrypt files or blocks of data at the node before being written to disk. The solution also takes advantage of Intel® AES-NI hardware encryption acceleration for maximum performance in the cryptographic process.
“Gazzang zNcrypt gives customers flexibility to address their unique environment and needs, whether they are securing a big data installation or protecting sensitive medical records,” said Dustin Kirkland, CTO of Gazzang. “As the volume of data organizations store and retain increases exponentially, the need for encryption and key management has never been greater.”
Gazzang zNcrypt 3.0 features include:
-
Transparent data encryption
- Provides high-performance data at-rest protection of all databases, applications or files running on Linux
- Helps enable compliance with HIPAA-HITECH, PCI-DSS, FISMA, EU Data Protection Directive and other data security regulations
-
Advanced key management with Gazzang
zTrustee™
- Stores keys separate from the encrypted data to ensure a data breach does not also result in the loss of the cryptographic key
- Enforces a broad range of policies for object authorization, expiration, revocation, retrieval limits and more
-
Process-based access controls
- Restrict access to specific, authorized processes
- Limit data availability to only those who need it
- Provide maximum flexibility and control
-
Simple installation and configuration
- Simple .deb and .rpm installation
- Available through automation tools including Chef and Puppet
- Requires no changes to databases, files, applications or storage
-
Support for multiple encrypted mount points with individual keys
- Provides better data segregation and multi-tenant storage by allowing different user groups to define their own key policies
- Enables organizations to easily add encrypted storage volumes without downtime
-
Tested and benchmarked
- Data applications: Apache Hadoop, Apache Cassandra, CDH, DataStax Enterprise, IBM InfoSphere BigInsights, MongoDB, MongoDB Enterprise, MySQL, PostgreSQL
- Cloud platforms: Amazon EC2, Amazon EMR, Rackspace Cloud, OpenStack
