Mobile Commerce News Weekly – Week of September 8, 2013

The Mobile Commerce News Weekly is an online newsletter made up of the most interesting news, articles and links related to mobile commerce and marketing, mobile payments, mobile money, e-wallets, mobile banking, mobile ads and mobile security that I run across each week.  I am specifically targeting market size and market trend information.

Additional payment terminal manufacturers and software providers have committed to integrating Isis SmartTap, Isis has announced.  Isis, the mobile commerce joint venture created by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA Inc. and Verizon Wireless, is preparing for a national launch later this year. The SmartTap protocol is a new, proprietary mobile commerce software specification that leverages near field communications technology.  Read Original Content

eMarketer projects that retail ecommerce holiday sales in the U.S. will rise about 15 percent again this year, matching last year’s gains. In total, U.S. retail ecommerce sales for the holiday season—defined as November and December—are expected to reach $61.8 billion, up from $53.7 billion last year.  Read Original Content

Wells Fargo raised its projected price range for Apple stock, citing expectations that the company will become more flexible with its carrier partners, and that the anticipated inclusion of a fingerprint sensor in the "iPhone 5S" will drive up adoption rates of mobile commerce among consumer and corporate markets.  Read Original Content

PayPal has issued a major update for its mobile commerce application that may help it edge out the competition from other mobile wallets. The application features a new user interface that is designed to be more convenient for users. Placecast, a mobile marketing company that has built out a business around services like its geotargeted ShopAlerts, is now taking the next step to link up advertisers and mobile consumers. Twitter has acquired mobile advertising startup MoPub.  The companies did not disclose a price but TechCrunch reported that the deal was valued at about $350 million in stock.  Read Original Content

Apple has filed for a European patent detailing a system for combining a fingerprint scanner with near field communication technology, allowing for dual modes of operation in a single space-saving design. Retailers are overestimating the growth of consumer spending via mobile devices by over 100 percent, with 75 percent of leading retailers expecting consumers using mobile devices to account for 40 percent of sales and above in two years time, while 50 percent expect the mobile channel to account for 50 percent or more of total online sales, according to a study commissioned by Peerius.  Read Original Content
