Modernizing Medicine, Inc., the creator of the Electronic Medical Assistant® (EMA™), a cloud-based, specialty-specific electronic medical record (EMR) system, will present new time-saving and advanced data features in EMA Dermatology™ at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting.
EMA Dermatology, Modernizing Medicine’s template-free, flagship EMR system that has captured approximately 20 percent of the dermatology market in four short years because of its touch-based native iPad convenience and depth of medical knowledge just for dermatology, will be available for demonstrations at the AAD’s booth # 2544. In addition to features, such as the EMA Network™, EMA Outcomes™, EMA Grand Rounds™ and the EMA Interactive Anatomical Atlas™, that EMA has become known for, the company will present new developments in EMA.
“We are excited about what we have to highlight at The Academy this year,” said Michael Sherling, M.D., chief medical officer and co-founder of Modernizing Medicine. “Our automatic ICD-10 functionality tops the list because there’s nothing else like it out there. EMA effortlessly generates the proper ICD-10 code for billing along with the exam note.”
ICD-10 is built in to EMA without crosswalks or general equivalence mapping. Doctors can quickly document and code an exam without tedious typing via the convenient native iPad application. “Its definitely in the spotlight,” said Sherling, “especially considering the transition to ICD-10 later this year that will usher in a massive increase in medical diagnostic codes.”
During the conference, Modernizing Medicine will demonstrate a new prototype application within EMA, schEMA powered by IBM Watson. The app is being created as part of Modernizing Medicine's participation in the IBM Watson Ecosystem program designed to help organizations develop a new generation of apps infused with Watson's cognitive computing intelligence. The application will accumulate comprehensive peer-reviewed medical journal articles from sources including JAMA Dermatology from The JAMA Network® the American Medical Association international publications group. The application enables dermatologists to pose queries, describe symptoms or search for information and statistics about various conditions and matches those queries with clinically useful content. The goal is to aid dermatologists with an expert source of evidence-based data that they can use to inform their treatment recommendations.
“This project has the potential to revolutionize the accessibility of information for our customers across the country,” said Modernizing Medicine’s CEO Dan Cane. “It’s like having a skilled research assistant with access to a medical reference library and an expert advisor available at your fingertips."
“We are very excited to see our content used in such a way that physicians can make decisions based on the best possible evidence at the point of care,” said JAMA Editor-in-Chief Howard Bauchner, M.D.
In addition to EMA Dermatology product demonstrations at the conference, scheduled presentations will be offered on ICD-10, schEMA powered by Watson through EMA and customer experiences. For more information about EMA Dermatology, visit the Modernizing Medicine website.
