Reimagine Collaboration & Productivity for the Modern Information Economy With the Revel Foundry on Aug. 7

Give us your doers, your planners, Your cubical-bound creatives yearning to breathe free... We lift our lamp beside the Foundry's golden door.

KIRKLAND, WA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/29/14 -- The Revel Foundry invites the public to a workshop to reimagine the future of knowledge work. The workshop will take place on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Revel's headquarters in Kirkland, Wash. Register online via MeetUp.com.

In July, the largest players in technology and productivity including Apple, IBM and Microsoft, announced partnerships and strategic initiatives which will further accelerate the pace of innovation around collaboration and productivity. Simultaneously the walls, which traditionally establish the boundaries between work and home and competitor and partner, whether physical or intangible, are evaporating.

"I see an incredible opportunity to redefine work itself," said Vikas Kamran, Revel's CEO. "Transparency and agility are becoming increasingly important for innovation, especially when it comes to knowledge work. These recent announcements show a renewed commitment to designing products with these values at their core."

Knowledge workers are particularly suited to solve the problems they're facing. Their primary capital is information. Their deep experiences and intellectual curiosity primes them for work grounded in specialized non-routine problem solving.

Seattle consistently ranks near the top of the smartest cities, best places for entrepreneurs and best places to live lists. The city has and continues to attract a depth of knowledge worker talent unlike almost anywhere else in the world. Revel Foundry is simply providing space for them to come together to solve a problem.

"We invite knowledge workers to come together to imagine a world without boundaries and ensure Seattle's position as the hub for innovation in productivity," said Kamran. "We must continue to work towards people being able to collaborate wherever and however they want in a capacity above today's productivity standards. It's an exciting time to be in the Pacific Northwest."

Revel hosts similar workshops for divergent and convergent ideation internally and for clients on a regular cadence, but is now opening the workshops as a public beta of the Revel Foundry. The Revel Foundry is a platform where people come together to experiment, find inspiration and forge new solutions.

"These workshops create engaging experiences by unleashing the creativity of each participant and making a pre-defined vision of success come to life," said Michael Nguyen, Manager and change agent behind the Revel Foundry. "They are prime opportunities to share and acquire knowledge and skills of relevant topics by doing them."

The platform consists of spaces, experiences and information -- spanning the physical, digital or ethereal -- to serve the emerging generation of consultants and distributed knowledge workers.

Revel launched the public beta of its digital space, RevelFoundry.com, as the first space accessible to the public. It hosts content published from a select group of contributors from the firm. The content includes stories, insights, tools and curated links.

"Peers and competitors increasingly have access to the same information, technologies and talent pools due to globalization, the Internet and social media," said Tim Bowman, Revel's Manager of Strategy & Insights. "The differentiator is no longer the information or the people, it's how those people come together to leverage those resources; it's not about what we do, it's about how we do it."

Stories, videos and photos from previous Revel Foundry workshops are available at RevelFoundry.com.

The workshop is free to attend. Register online via MeetUp.com.

Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues. Each component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and practices, and deployed to a different stack/target –...

With so much going on in this space you could be forgiven for thinking you were always working with yesterday’s technologies. So much change, so quickly. What do you do if you have to build a solution from the ground up that is expected to live in the field for at least 5-10 years? This is the challenge we faced when we looked to refresh our existing 10-year-old custom hardware stack to measure the fullness of trash cans and compactors.

Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like “How is my application doing” but no id...
