NEW YORK, Aug. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- ScrollMotion, the company that has been transforming content for the interactive world since 2008 through its industry-leading mobile application platform and premium agency services, announces the appointment of Joe Zeff as Vice President/Executive Creative Director.

Based out of the company's New York City headquarters, Zeff will be responsible for overseeing ScrollMotion's overall creative direction. Zeff will manage teams in New York and San Diego that design and develop custom applications for enterprise clients. He will also provide UX/UI leadership for the ScrollMotion Enterprise Platform, which provides the tools designers need to create, distribute, manage and effectively use interactive content on mobile devices -- without programming resources. Additionally, Zeff will work closely with the product, sales and marketing teams to shape the organization's brand image and product roadmap, and its ability to uniquely solve business needs through mobile content design and implementation.

"Tablets are changing the way that companies do business, both inside and out," stated Dean Furbush, CEO of ScrollMotion. "This is a notion we've known for years, which has been further validated by recent hallmark announcements, including Apple and IBM's partnership and Joe's decision to join our team. He is a true visionary and we're thrilled to have his incredible talent and expertise at ScrollMotion."

Identified by The Guardian as "one of America's top app designers" and by Walter Isaacson, author of Steve Jobs' biography, as "one of the most creative and insightful designers of our era," Zeff joins ScrollMotion from Joe Zeff Design, the award-winning agency he founded and led since 2000.

The agency designed and developed mobile applications for publishers (TIME Inc., Fast Company and National Geographic), corporations (PepsiCo and the National Football League), financial institutions (JP Morgan Chase) and universities (Notre Dame, UCLA). They also designed and illustrated magazine covers and data visualizations (Fortune, Rolling Stone, and Sports Illustrated), advertisements (M&Ms and DirecTV), music album covers (Kayne West and Jay-Z), and more. Zeff has designed four apps selected by Apple as App of the Week, and one that is in the iTunes Hall of Fame.

"I've watched the iPad transition from a toy to a powerful tool," said Joe Zeff. "The next frontier is the workplace. I'm thrilled to be joining ScrollMotion, which is rapidly transforming the enterprise with applications that make tablets indispensible to businesses. Just as they launched into digital publishing years before the iPad was introduced, they're way ahead of everyone else when it comes to the enterprise. I'm excited to be part of that."

Zeff's experience in creating storytelling apps originates from his background in journalism. Prior to starting Joe Zeff Designs, Zeff worked as an editor, reporter and designer at newspapers and magazines, including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Detroit Free Press and The New York Times, where he was the newspaper's first Presentation Editor. He then moved to TIME magazine, where he advanced from Associate Art Director to Deputy Art Director to Graphics Director. At TIME, Zeff was a pioneer in showing how animation software could be leveraged to create realistic print graphics, and his team inspired newspapers and magazines worldwide to combine illustration with information using computer-generated imagery.

Zeff currently resides in Montclair, NJ with his wife and three children. He previously served on the board of the Society of Publication Designers in New York City and chaired its popular speaker series. When not working, Zeff is likely riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle or rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The explosion of new web/cloud/IoT-based applications and the data they generate are transforming our world right before our eyes. In this rush to adopt these new technologies, organizations are often ignoring fundamental questions concerning who owns the data and failing to ask for permission to conduct invasive surveillance of their customers. Organizations that are not transparent about how their systems gather data telemetry without offering shared data ownership risk product rejection, regu...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
Machine learning has taken residence at our cities' cores and now we can finally have "smart cities." Cities are a collection of buildings made to provide the structure and safety necessary for people to function, create and survive. Buildings are a pool of ever-changing performance data from large automated systems such as heating and cooling to the people that live and work within them. Through machine learning, buildings can optimize performance, reduce costs, and improve occupant comfort by ...

Poor data quality and analytics drive down business value. In fact, Gartner estimated that the average financial impact of poor data quality on organizations is $9.7 million per year. But bad data is much more than a cost center. By eroding trust in information, analytics and the business decisions based on these, it is a serious impediment to digital transformation.
In his keynote at 19th Cloud Expo, Sheng Liang, co-founder and CEO of Rancher Labs, discussed the technological advances and new business opportunities created by the rapid adoption of containers. With the success of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and various open source technologies used to build private clouds, cloud computing has become an essential component of IT strategy.
