bauMax, Austria's market-leading building and do-it-yourself company, with headquarters in Klosterneuburg near Vienna, has chosen to implement the latest version of Stibo Catalog's multi-channel publishing system, STEP. Using STEP, bauMax will achieve significantly more added value with its product communications, due not only to more efficient catalog production, but also the ability to plan product presentations based on proven commercial criteria.

bauMax had re-structured its product information management, centralizing communication in a single department prior to the decision to implement STEP. This was due to steady expansion into new markets and a growing portfolio. "We maintain information and pictures on over 200,000 SKUs,” says Alexander Schleifer, responsible for product communications at bauMax. Product information is published via a bi-annual main catalog, monthly flyers, and targeted media, in a variety of languages, due to bauMax's presence in eight countries in central and southeast Europe – and counting. An Internet presence is in the works as well.

"Streamlining processes will allow us to realize significant savings," explains Schleifer. Therefore, data transfer, centralized maintenance in various language versions, and graphic production were basic requirements of a new program. "We chose STEP because it ideally maps the commercial process during media planning,” he says. This is made possible by the STEP Merchandiser tool. It not only allows product managers to view the final page layout, but interfaces with other programs enabling analysis of historic sales and availability of the presented products. Catalog pages and product presentations can be created with fast turnaround and according to economic criteria.
