Canoo Releases New Plug-in for Eclipse 3.0

Basel, Switzerland-based Canoo has released a new plug-in for Eclipse 3.0 that simplifies Rich Internet Application (RIA) development with the UltraLightClient (ULC) Java library. The new plug-in, says Canoo, provides a tight ULC integration into the Eclipse IDE, enabling developers to deliver pure Java-based RIAs with unprecedented efficiency.

#2	Marc Domenig commented on 9 Nov 2004 ULC provides a server-side API to Swing, thereby offering the rich UI functionality of Swing in a server-side web architecture. Technically, ULC applies the Half Object + Protocol design pattern to the entire set of Swing widgets. As a result, the developer can use the Swing widgets as if they were running on the server. At runtime, ULC keeps the model of the presentation layer on the server side while an application independent presentation engine renders the UI on the client, using native Swing.
