'The Java backlash,' writes Bruce Eckel, 'has been building up steam, and we're starting to see some fundamental shifts because of it.' Credit Suisse: HP's BEA Systems Takeover Is Wishful Thinking
BEA may ultimately end up being acquired, however, we think that path will at the very least take some time and won't be as easy one might hope. While we believe BEA Systems ought to be part of another company, we aren't sure the recent disappointing Q1 is enough to push the management team and board to engage in any serious discussions. Our sense is that it will take a concerted effort by shareholders to move any process forward
Amazon Pays Off IBM To Settle Big Patent Suit
Remember last October when IBM sued Amazon claiming the great dot.com had knowingly built its business model on the back of IBM's patents? Well, the pair patched up their difference the other day outside the courtroom after Amazon paid IBM some unsung amount of money. There is now a long-term IP cross-license in place with Amazon remarking that 'IBM's patent portfolio is the largest and strongest in the IT industry' and that 'our license to its portfolio, and specifically to its web technology patents, gives us greater freedom to innovate.'
dBlue - An Advanced Enterprise Information Search and Delivery System
One of the biggest complaints we hear about many company Web sites, from customers and employees alike, is that it's too hard to find what you need. A new IBM advanced information search and delivery system for the IBM support site (www.ibm.com/support) is expected to solve this problem. SOA Manufactures Success for the Supply Chain
There's no question that Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) will continue to lead the IT and business agenda. After all, an SOA offers a flexible, extensible, and composable approach to reusing and extending existing applications and services, as well as constructing new ones.
Two SOA Projects That Can Pay For Themselves in Six Months
Service oriented architecture (SOA) could revolutionize the way we think about IT. Why is that possible? Because SOA finally has the potential to make the concept of reuse real. Companies have been talking about reuse for years, but have never been able to transform that talk into full-scale reality. Now, you might be asking, 'How can SOA succeed where previous approaches have failed?' Because the standards, best practices and governance models have finally matured to the point where reuse can actually work.

'Virtualization' Methods Slash IT Costs, Optimize Infrastructure
Organizations are scrambling to drive costs out of their IT infrastructure, while making it more flexible. They're looking for ways to avoid upgrades, and to use what they already have to meet new and demanding information processing requirements. In addition, enterprises are working to optimize their IT infrastructure to enable new business initiatives. A new video-based program from IBM and WatchIT -- a leader in on-demand education -- presents successful techniques for achieving these sometimes conflicting goals.
